United Involved

You may have heard the correlation between happy, inspired employees and increased profitability.   Successful companies who support this thinking aren’t settling for the usual sales/bonus motivation to reach their corporate objectives.  They are taking matters a step further by developing unique campaigns to actively engage their staff and by aligning company values with employees’ personal interests.

United Performance Metals has joined this movement through its campaign entitled JUST BE.  The JUST BE Campaign includes a three part mission... Be Proactive, Be Accountable, Be Involved.  It was designed to encourage employees throughout the company to take a more active role in the business’ success on multiple fronts.

Sherri Davis, Human Resources and Training Manager, has strived to create a variety of opportunities for staff to Be Involved throughout the year - so much so that a subculture has grown out of the JUST BE campaign known as United Involved

As Davis explains the group, “United Involved has developed into a charitable and social engagement force.  We set up opportunities for employees to volunteer with outreach organizations, we celebrate the personal and professional milestones of our staff, and we encourage cross-departmental activities as a means of getting to know and appreciate one another on a more personal level.”

Giving Back to the Community

The events promoted by United Involved tie into United Performance Metals’ commitment to give back to the community.  Organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butler County, Ohio, Shared Harvest Food Bank, and the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Field are just a few recipients of both financial support and personal UPM staff volunteer involvement.

Davis reports “People are really enjoying the personal time they get to spend with the organizations we support.  The impact that experience leaves them with is truly something special.”  Davis adds, “ I get asked all the time to let them know when we will be going back to help out again.  When can I sign up?”

While many events are philanthropic in nature, others are purely social such as office corn-hole tournaments, hockey games and chili cook-offs.  Staff members are working or playing side-by-side with someone their paths might not have crossed otherwise; a salesman and a slitter operator, the company president and the marketing intern.  Through it all,  the response has been positive.

And studies have shown that employees with positive feelings towards their jobs work harder, are more innovative and are healthier.  United Involved is striving to offer opportunities for staff members to earn more than just a paycheck.  It’s a chance to enrich the community as well as the company.
